Setting up a Free Gift Campaign

Choose your free gift type to jump directly to the setup steps:

Common Settings

These apply to every free gift type. Configure them during setup.

Threshold: Choose what unlocks the gift — a minimum spend amount (e.g., $100) or a quantity of items (e.g., Buy 5). You can calculate the threshold across all products, specific products, or specific collections.

Discount Combinations: If you're running other Shopify discounts alongside this free gift, ensure "Combines with Product Discounts" is enabled on both the Kite offer and the Shopify discount. Scheduling: Set a start and end date, or let it run continuously.

Eligibility and Targeting

Below the main gift rules, you'll see three separate sections to control who qualifies for your offer and under what conditions.

Cart Eligibility: Add extra conditions the cart must meet on top of the base threshold. Click Add rule to add conditions like:

Stacking Multiple Product Discounts on the Same Line Item - Shopify Plus only

Standard Shopify logic limits a product line item to a single discount. However, Shopify Plus merchants can bypass this by using reciprocal discount tags to stack multiple app-created product discounts (like those made in Kite) on the exact same item.

By default, if you create two separate product discounts that target the same product—for example, two different "Buy X, Get Y for 25% Off" offers where product 'Y' is the same in both—Shopify will only apply the best single discount to that item. Even if you enable "combine with product discounts" in the general settings, the discounts will not stack on a single line item.

Shopify Plus provides advanced discount capabilities that allow you to stack these offers using Discount Tags. Here is how to configure your Kite offers so they stack seamlessly:

Locate the Discount Tags: When editing your product discount offers in Kite, look for the discount tag section. Each app-created discount generates its own unique tag.
Apply Tags Reciprocally: To make two discounts stack (e.g., Discount 1 and Discount 2), they must mutually "tag" each other.
- Open Discount 1, click Add Tags, select the tag for Discount 2, and hit Save.
- Next, open Discount 2, click Add Tags, select the tag for Discount 1, and hit Save.
Verify the Cart: Once both discounts possess each other's tags, refresh your cart page. You will now see both discounts successfully applied and stacked on the same line ite

Changing Kite Widget Position - Shopify App Blocks & CSS Selectors

You can easily reposition Kite widgets (like Free Gifts) using Shopify's Theme Editor App Blocks for your Product and Cart pages. For Side Carts, which usually do not support App Blocks, you can position the widget using CSS Selectors directly within the Kite app settings.

Method 1: Repositioning on Product and Cart Pages (Using Shopify Theme Editor) By default, Kite identifies standard elements and places the widget above the "Add to Cart" or "Checkout" buttons. To customize this:

Go to your Shopify Admin and navigate to Online Store > Themes.
Click Customize on your current theme.
Use the top dropdown menu to navigate to the template you want to edit (e.g., Products > Default product or Cart).
Look for the Product Information section (or the main Cart section) on the left sidebar.
Click Add block, select the Apps tab, and choose your specific Kite widget (e.g., Free Gift).
Click and drag the new App Block by its handle (the six dots) to your desired position, such as directly above the variant picker.
Click Save in the top right corner. Refresh your storefront to see the changes.

Method 2: Repositioning on the Side Cart (Using CSS Selectors) Most Shopify themes do not allow you to drag and drop App Blocks directly into a slide-out Side Cart. You will need to tell the Kite app exactly where to place the widget using a CSS Selector.

Select Offer Type: In the Kite dashboard, click Create Promotion and select Buy X Get Y, then choose the Quick Buy X Get Y template.
Define the Trigger (Buy X): Choose specific products, collections, or tags that "trigger" the offer. Set the minimum quantity required (e.g., "Buy 1").
Define the Reward (Get Y): Select the products the customer is eligible to receive. You can set a Quantity Limit (e.g., Buy 1 X, get up to 2 Ys at a discount).
Set the Discount: Choose between a Percentage Off, Fixed Amount Off, or a Fixed Selling Price for the "Y" items.
Usage Limits & Targeting: Set the "Maximum uses per order" to prevent over-claiming. You can also restrict the offer to specific Shopify Markets, Customer Tags (e.g., VIPs), or Logged-in users.

Verify the Discount Type: Ensure the promotion you are building is a Code-level discount (requires manual entry by the customer at checkout). Note: Automatic discounts are not eligible for bulk code generation.
Access the Generator: * From an active offer setup: Click the option to generate discount codes.
- From the Create Promotion page: Scroll down and click Generate Codes.
Select Your Discount: Search for and select the active code discount you created in Kite. A summary of the selected promotion will appear.
Choose a Generation Method: * Randomly Generate: Let Kite create a bulk batch of randomized codes.
- Upload List: Import your own pre-defined list of custom codes.
- Manual Entry: Type specific codes manually.
Customize Random Codes: If you selected "Randomly Generate," input the desired volume (e.g., 1,000 codes). You can customize the format by adding a Prefix or Suffix, adjusting the character length, and choosing the randomness type (Alphanumeric, Alphabetic, or Numeric). Use the real-time preview to verify the format.

Follow these steps to configure, customize, and publish your tiered discount:

Phase 1: Create the Promotion and Set Targeting

Start the Promotion: In the Kite app, click Create Promotion and select the Tiered discount option. Give your promotion a clear name.
Select Target Products: Choose which products the discount applies to. You can select "All products" or narrow it down using specific products, product variants, collections, product tags, or product types, product line attributes or products with subscriptions .
Combine Filters (Optional): You can stack targeting rules for hyper-specific promotions. For example, you can require a product to belong to a specific collection and be a specific product type to be eligible for the discount.
